Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapy programs are tailored to enhance independence and daily living skills. We consider the child’s interests, strengths, and specific developmental milestones to create a rewarding and effective therapy experience.

Pediatric Occupational therapy

Pediatric occupational therapy (OT) focuses on helping children develop the skills needed for daily activities, or "occupations," which can range from playing and learning to self-care tasks like dressing, eating, or bathing. The goal is to support a child’s ability to engage in age-appropriate activities and improve their quality of life by enhancing their motor, sensory, cognitive, and social skills.

Key areas addressed in Pediatric Occupational Therapy include:

  • Fine Motor Skills: Occupational therapists can help children develop skills like grip strength, hand-eye coordination, dexterity, grasping objects, and using tools like pencils or scissors.
  • Handwriting Improvement: Addressing underlying issues and developing fine motor skills. The theory behind using OT to improve handwriting is by allowing the child to play, write and learn through various sensory inputs, meaningful activities and writing programmes, which will develop the underlying skills needed for successful handwriting.
  • Improve posture: Occupational therapists can teach children proper posture and positioning, which can significantly improve handwriting.
  • Gross Motor Skills: Coordination, balance, and physical strength needed for larger movements, like walking, running, or jumping.
  • Sensory Processing Disorders: Helping children who have difficulty processing and responding to sensory input (e.g., sounds, touch, movement).
  • Adaptive Strategies for Daily Life/Self-Care Skills: Learning activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  • Social and Emotional Development: Building the skills needed for interacting with peers and managing emotions.
  • Visual-Motor Integration: Improving the ability to coordinate vision with body movements, which is important for reading, writing, and sports.
Occupational therapists work in a variety of settings, including schools, clinics, and homes, using activities and exercises that are often play-based and customized to the child’s unique needs.
